Mental Health Portal

The Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC) is committed to ensuring the highest degree of health, safety and welfare for all staff and students.

This commitment includes supporting staff and students to achieve good mental health, which is core to a healthy, safe and happy individual.

This portal is designed to guide staff and students to information and support which is available to them, both internally from the University and from the wider community.

The information on the portal can also be used to help deal with mental distress but it is not designed to treat or offer guidance for mental health conditions. The diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions is the role of medical professionals.

Mental health problems cost employers in the UK an estimated £30 Million every year through lost production, recruitment and absence. An estimated 9.9 million working days are lost in the UK due to absences associated with mental health in the workforce. Mental health transcends social and economic barriers and can impact on work and social life of all staff and students.
