Find out more about our multidisciplinary approach, researchers, collaborations and funding. ResearchersThe Institute of Genetics and Cancer brings together engineers, scientists and clinicians from fields as diverse as mathematics, computer sciences, bioinformatics, chemistry, biology and medicine to study human health and disease using modern multidisciplinary approaches.More than 80 research groups, 500 staff and 120 PhD students are working together in a single, scientific endeavour. Our national and international partnerships with industry, academia and healthcare professionals help drive our research and its translation to impact. Our Institute receives core funding from the Medical Research Council (MRC Human Genetics Unit) and Cancer Research UK (as part of the CRUK Scotland Centre and Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence). Research Themes Our five research themes go from fundamental research and discovery to applied clinical studies and implementation in practice. They bring together diverse researchers at different career stages using complementary approaches to understand the basis of disease and how it can be predicted, diagnosed and treated. Funded Centres Our Institute is dedicated to advancing the full spectrum of translational science, from foundational research in basic biology to the development of novel therapies. Collaborations and Networks We work with other research institutes and universities in the UK and internationally, as well as supporting our researchers to collaborate widely, to improve the lives of people living with genetic disease and cancer through research.
