Using Our Equipment

Guidelines and information about training requests, health and safety, charges and usage. For more details about using the facility please see our sharepoint (internal UoE) or contact us.

Guidelines

Users must have their own risk assessments for work in the facility and must have read the facility risk assessments found on Q-Pulse. The AIR is a laboratory space and we expect our users to adhere to good laboratory practise while using our equipment. AIR does not store research data, in line with our data governance policy, end users must make their own arrangements in line with the University of Edinburgh guidance on data storage and IT security. If you are internal to the University of Edinburgh please contact your local IS team for support with data. If you require more detailed information about the equipment, costs and technical capabilities please contact us.

Training Requests

The AIR works core hours 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Out of hours assistance is available in advance at request. If you are new to the AIR email us to discuss your requirements further.

Facility users need to be trained on each new modality they use. Users of laser based systems are expected to complete the University of Edinburgh Laser Safety Awareness for users of laser microscopes course. Please request training via PPMS. The AIR staff are employed to support AIR equipment. We can, at our discretion, advise about non-AIR equipment but are not obliged to provide support. This also applies to Bioimage analysis requests. The workshop are able to provide support for equipment repairs and can be contacted via this form.

Publication Policy

AIR expects all users to adhere to the IGC acknowledging facilities in publications policy.
