Making precision medicine a reality: from discovering molecular drivers of disease to testing novel interventions. Our theme integrates molecular epidemiology, data science and clinical trials, with applications across ageing, chronic disease, and oncology. We utilise large‐scale cohorts, omics data, and electronic health records to understand disease heterogeneity, risk prediction and causality. Disease focus areas include cancer, diabetes, dementia, depression, ME, arthritis, and IBD. Within cancer we lead many clinical trials and drug discovery studies, with a particular focus on phase 1 trials (first in human), breast cancer, renal cancer and palliative care in cancer.Theme Lead: Professor Riccardo Marioni David Cameron Research Group Clinical Trials in Breast Cancer Oriol Canela-Xandri Research Group High performance algorithms to analyse large and distributed datasets Helen Colhoun Research Group Diabetes Medical Informatics and Epidemiology Marie Fallon Research Group Edinburgh Palliative and Supportive Care Group (EPAS) Peter Hall Research Group Clinical Informatics and Health Economics in Cancer Ian Kunkler Research Group Clinical and Translational Studies of Breast Radiotherapy Charlie Lees' Research Group: Transformative IBD Medicine Predict • Personalise • Prevent inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) Riccardo Marioni Research Group Genetics and epigenetics of cognitive ageing Olga Oikonomidou Research Group Clinical Translational Research in Breast Cancer Chris Ponting Research Group ME/CFS Disease Mechanisms Stuart Ralston Research Group Pathogenesis and management of rheumatic and bone diseases Stefan Symeonides Research Group Drug Development and Early Phase Cancer Trials Albert Tenesa Research Group Understanding Human Complex Trait Variation Pippa Thomson Research Group The genetics of mental health and cognition Arran Turnbull Research Group Translational Oncology Research Group – Breast Cancer Catalina Vallejos Research Group Biomedical Data Science This article was published on 2026-01-05
