The facility operates four instruments: Two cell sorters – BD FACS ARIA II & Beckman Coulter Cytoflex SRT and two analysers – BD FORTESSA X-20 & Beckman Coulter Cytoflex S. Cell Sorters BDFACS Aria II Image The FACSAria II high-speed, fixed – alignment cuvette cell sorter is capable of detecting up to 14 different parameters +2 FCS/SSC and capable of sorting up to 4 populations at a time. Temperature control (cooling and heating) is available for collection tubes as well as plates. Additionally, the sample loading chamber can also be cooled. Lasers: 5 - 355nm , 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, 640nm. Sample tubes: 1.5mL Eppendorf, 5mL FACS tubes, 15mL Falcon tubes. Collection tubes: Eppendorf, FACS tubes, 15mL Falcon tubes, 6/24/48/96/ 384 well plates. Beckman Coulter Cytoflex SRT Image The Cytoflex SRT is a high-speed cell sorter is capable of detecting up to 14 different parameters +2 FCS/SSC and capable of sorting up to 4 populations at a time. This instrument is housed in MSC Class II cabinet and should be booked for all class II sorts. Temperature control (cooling and heating) is available for collection tubes as well as plates. Lasers: 4 - 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, 638nm. Sample tubes: 1.5mL Eppendorf, 5mL FACS tubes. Collection tubes: Eppendorf, FACS tubes, 15mL Falcon tubes, 6/24/48/96/ 384 well plates. Flow Cytometry analysers BD LSRFORTESSA X-20 Image The Fortessa is capable of detecting up to 16 parameters +2 FSC/SSC. There is the option to run plates with the HTS plate loader for high throughput analysis. Users undergo training provided by Flow Core staff and are then able to operate the cytometer independently, but staff are always available to address any queries or issues. Lasers: 5: 355nm 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, 640nm Sample tubes: 5mL FACS polystyrene tubes ONLY Beckman Coulter Cytoflex S Image The Cytoflex S is capable of detecting up to 6 parameters +2 FSC/SSC. There is the option to run plates with the plate loader. Users undergo training provided by Flow Core staff and are then able to operate the cytometer independently, but staff are always available to address any queries or issues.
