Mark Arends named next President of the Pathological Society

Professor Mark Arends, Principal Investigator and Professor of Pathology at the Cancer Research UK Edinburgh Centre, has recently been elected as the next President of the Pathological Society: October 2020

The announcement was made in September at the 2020 virtual Annual General Meeting of the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland. Professor Arends will continue as General Secretary and President-Elect of the Society until his term as President begins from July 2021. 

The Pathological Society has been advancing pathology and allied sciences for more than a century and is dedicated to enhancing high quality research and education.  

Professor Arends is Head of Pathology at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the Centre for Comparative Pathology. His research at the CRUK Edinburgh Centre, Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, focuses on colorectal cancer pathology, pathogenesis and genomics, and in particular, the roles of alcohol-induced DNA damage, DNA mismatch repair, Lynch Syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and identification of new colorectal tumour genes in comparative models and human cancers.
