On 18 September a group of passionate staff and students from the Institute of Genetics and Cancer walked in aid of the Edinburgh Research into Cancer (ERIC) Fund: October 2022 Image Iris and Helen Nickerson The team – Covadonga Vara, Mihaly Badonyi, Lukas Gerasimavicius, Lukas Tamayo Orrego, Ben Livesey, Marcin Plech, Hasan Çubuk, Iris and Helen Nickerson – joined the 5,000 walkers who donned kilts and tartan to take on various walking routes across Scotland’s Capital last month. The ERIC fund was both conceived and inspired by Andy Sims, a talented cancer researcher who sadly passed away in 2021.The team walked in his memory and in hope of better treatments for those diagnosed with cancer now and in the future. Also walking for the ERIC Fund, and NHS Lothian Charity, were staff at Robertson Construction Central East, contractors to the Institute’s 4D Cellular Medicine building project. In total more than £5,000 was raised, including matched donations by The Hunter Foundation, in aid of the ERIC fund which was set up to support pioneering research into cancer in Edinburgh.Congratulations to all involved for their impressive achievements - thank you for supporting the ERIC Fund and Edinburgh’s fight against cancer. For more information about the fund or to make a donation, visit the Edinburgh Research into Cancer (ERIC) Fund webpage.I am really motivated by working with the talented scientists at IGC and so valued the chance to give research a boost via the Kiltwalk. It was also a chance to share a little about what we do here with friends and family, many of whom were really happy to donate. The walk atmosphere was fantastic and I enjoyed spending time with colleagues and my daughter who also walked for the ERIC fund.Helen NickersonMRC Human Genetics Unit Image Covadonga Vara, Mihaly Badonyi, Lukas Gerasimavicius, Lukas Tamayo Orrego, Ben Livesey, Marcin Plech and Hasan Çubuk took part Tags 2022 Publication date 21 Oct, 2022
