The Institute for Academic Development offers development opportunities for researchers at all career stages.  

Information and workshops for staff who act as Principal Investigators (PIs), and/or who manage or supervise researchers can be accessed via the IAD website:

  • Developing your skills; courses, briefings, self-study resources, and other CPD options.  Including information on supervisor briefing events.
  • Managing and supervising; guidance and forms on managing and supervising research staff and students.
  • PI Briefing Managing Your Research Group (MVM); Managing your Research Group is a compulsory course for all existing and new Principal Investigators in the Deaneries of Clinical Sciences and Molecular, Genetic and Population Health Sciences, and strongly recommended in the Deanery of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Codes, guidance and regulations; useful guidance and regulations relevant to your role.
  • Finance and resource management; information and services to support you in seeking and managing research grant funding.
  • Supporting cohort proposals; advice for those writing proposals for cohort training grants and details of how we support doctoral training partnership, centres and networks.
