Team and Expertise

Meet the scientists behind the facility — specialists in proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and bioinformatics, with over 16,000 combined citations and publications in Nature, Nature Metabolism, Nature Immunology, and beyond.

The IGC Mass Spectrometry Facility is led by scientists with deep expertise across all three analytical pillars — proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics. We are not just an instrument core; we are active researchers who understand the biology behind your questions and can help design experiments that generate meaningful, publishable data.

We collaborate with research groups across the UK and internationally — including groups at the Universities of Oxford, Glasgow, Cambridge, and Queen Mary London, and partners in the US, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland.

Alex von Kriegsheim

Academic Lead | Proteomics, Single-Cell Proteomics, Spatial Proteomics

Alex leads the facility and has built it into one of the UK's most capable multiomics centres. His research spans cancer signalling and systems biology, with particular focus on how signalling networks are rewired in disease.

Alex drives the facility's specialist capabilities in single-cell proteomics (SCP) and deep visual proteomics (DVP) technologies that are reshaping what is possible from precious clinical and research samples.

Dr Jair Marques

Lab Manager | Metabolomics, Lipidomics, Bioinformatics, Multiomics

Jair manages the day-to-day operation of the facility and leads on metabolomics and lipidomics projects. His expertise spans quantitative metabolic profiling, isotope tracing, lipid structural analysis, and the bioinformatic pipelines that convert raw instrument data into biological insight. He has a particular interest in integrated multiomics workflows — combining metabolite, lipid, and protein data from the same sample to give researchers a complete molecular picture.

Dr Chartinun Chutoe

Research Scientist | Proteomics, Immunopeptidomics, Interaction Proteomics, Tissue Proteomics

Chartinun specialises in high-complexity proteomics workflows — from interaction proteomics (BioID, APEX proximity labelling) to immunopeptidomics (HLA peptide identification) and tissue proteomics, including work with FFPE and fresh-frozen clinical samples. Her expertise covers the full sample-to-data pipeline for these technically demanding applications.

Our Network

We collaborate with research groups globally and across the UK. Current and recent collaborating institutions include:

UK: University of Oxford, University of Glasgow, University of Cambridge, Queen Mary University of London, and others across the Russell Group.

International: Research groups in the United States, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland.

If you are interested in a collaborative project — particularly one that might lead to co-authorship — get in touch to discuss. We are always open to new research partnerships.
